For a long time, I used resumemate.io to build my resumes. Despite a few minor issues here and there, it worked fairly well for me and probably for many others too.
Before that, I used to create resumes manually using my own template in Microsoft PowerPoint. While that gave me complete control over the design, the biggest challenge was rearranging sections and maintaining consistency. Updating blocks manually every time became tedious and time-consuming.
That’s when I came across a LinkedIn post recommending Resumemate.io as an ATS-friendly resume builder, and it simplified the process significantly.
The Moment That Triggered Me to Build My Own Resume Builder
Recently, however, the platform made even the basic resume generation and download feature paid.
To be fair, the pricing wasn’t outrageously expensive, it was around ₹99 for the most basic functionality. I even reached the payment gateway and was about to complete the payment.
But then I stopped and asked myself a simple question:
“Is it really worth paying for something that used to be free and already exists in the market?”
After all, I had been making resumes long before these tools existed.
Searching for a Free ATS-Friendly Resume Builder
So I went online looking for a free ATS-friendly resume builder and even searched for resumemate.io alternative. And yes, I found plenty of websites.
But almost every platform had the same problems:
- They showed hundreds of templates, making the process confusing and unnecessarily time-consuming.
- Most templates had fancy fonts, graphics, and layouts that I didn’t want.
- I specifically wanted a simple single-column ATS-friendly resume, but even the “minimal” templates felt over-designed.
Then came the next layer of frustration.
Why Existing Resume Builders Frustrated Me
Almost every website required:
- Creating an account
- Logging in before downloading
- Constant upselling of premium plans
- Locking essential features behind a paywall
Some sites made downloading paid. Others made editing limited unless upgraded.
Instead of simplifying resume creation, many tools felt like they were optimized to push subscriptions and upgrades.
At that point, I had two options:
- Pay for one of these resume builders, or
- Continue using my manually created templates, even though updating them would consume a lot of time
Neither felt ideal.
Building My Own ATS-Friendly Resume Builder
So I decided to build a simple, locally hosted ATS-friendly resume builder for myself.
No fancy UI.
No complicated workflows.
No unnecessary templates.
Just a clean, single-column ATS-friendly resume generator that did exactly what I needed.
And honestly, the final result was exactly what I was looking for.
Why I Put It Online
After using it for my own resume, I realized there are probably many people facing the same struggle:
- They just want a simple resume
- They don’t want to create accounts
- They don’t want subscription popups
- They don’t want over-designed templates
- They just want an ATS-friendly resume PDF quickly
So I decided to host it online for others as well.
I integrated the resume builder into my existing product CANSPLA — a free ATS built for recruiters and small businesses.
No Login, No Account, Everything Stored Locally
One of the best parts of the builder is this:
All your resume data is stored locally in your own browser.
There’s currently no need to create an account or upload sensitive personal information to a server just to build a resume.
Of course, future updates may include optional cloud saving features, but for now, the tool works exactly the way I wanted it to.
Simple. Fast. Private.
Final Thoughts
I didn’t initially plan to build a resume builder. I just wanted a straightforward way to create and update my own ATS-friendly resume without distractions, upsells, or unnecessary complexity.
And in the process, I ended up building something that others might find useful too.
If you’re someone looking for a simple ATS-friendly resume builder without login requirements or complicated templates, feel free to check out CANSPLA Resume Builder.
