BNP Paribas India offers stipend of 50k/month internship for 6 months to final year CS/IT engineering and MCA students. But there is a catch (on which I will come later).
I am an MCA graduate of 2021-2023 batch of Vivekanand Education Society’s Institute of Technology. BNP Paribas was one of the few companies that was offering such a lucrative internship stipend.
I applied to only two companies during campus placement. One was QuickSell (didn’t got selected) and the other was BNP Paribas.
BNP Paribas came at the end of the placement season, when most of the scholarly students were already placed in some other company. This was an advantage as competition was relatively lesser.
About the internship
BNP Paribas is a French bank and has a great work culture compared to other companies in its league. Like all others in college, I had never heard of this company, but it is really big bank and people in the financial services know about it.
The internship started from first week of January and lasted till the first week of July. Those interns who wished to continue as a permanent employee in BNP were given offer (as per the vacancy and requirement) and we joined as a permanent employee from July itself.
Since its very large company, it took one month to get all the access to system and environments. As soon as we join, we have to do some mandatory trainings which cover company policies, inclusion policies etc.
During internship, I worked on a python project to and built a software (using tkinter) to migrate tables from one database to another database where both the databases are in different environments. I can discuss more about the project in a different article.
Let’s talk about the catch!
As an intern, you get 50k/month stipend during your internship. And in most companies your post conversion salary is more than your internship stipend. But not here!
So, when you get converted to permanent employee, you are hired with the package of 6 LPA, thus you’re in hand salary becomes less than your internship stipend.
Technically, the company is hiring you at the package of 6 LPA since the start of your internship. So don’t expect hike after placement offer.
